THE BIBLICAL STUDIES POSTGRADUATE NETWORK
Recognising the unique challenges of postgraduate students worldwide, the European Association of Biblical Studies Postgraduate Network has been established to meet the needs of this community. The primary objective is to provide opportunities for professional development, the exchange of research ideas, practical advice and peer support. The network will be accessible to graduate students registered with academic institutions within the broad field of Biblical Studies, particularly but not exclusively in Europe. Our Aims are to: - Provide an environment where ideas can be discussed, research and resources shared, and conference details exchanged - Provide and share resources useful for the future careers of the members - Develop a network enabling the development of collaborative projects - Provide graduate students with a supportive environment for discussing differences in education practices, funding, supervision styles and other practical aspects of being a graduate student
To join in the network (on Faceboook), go here. It is open to all graduate students based in Europe, whether or not they are members of EABS.
If you can, please help to publicize the Network by printing out this poster and displaying it at your institution.
EABS GRADUATE SYMPOSIUM
APRIL 23-25, 2010
OLD ABBEY, DRONGEN (NEAR GHENT), BELGIUM
EABS is proud to present its second symposium for young scholars, which will take place April 23-25 2010 in Drongen (Belgium). We are welcoming PhD candidates and post doctoral researchers to present a lecture, seminar or discussion on a specific topic related to their research area. The symposium aims at representing a variety of subfields in the broader field of biblical studies, covering different topics, applying several approaches and formats. Above all, it hopes to be a fruitful gathering for those attending. Emerging scholars can adopt any style to present their research as fitting to their project (paper, workshop, round table discussion, and pre-circulated topics with Q&A session). In addition senior scholars will attend who will share their experience and provide feedback. They will assess in their own presentations more general topics, such as publication and job issues. This year’s event is glad to announce the attendance of prof. Jorunn Økland (University of Oslo), prof. Hugh Pyper (University of Sheffield), and prof. Pierre Van Hecke (Catholic University of Louvain).
Due to the format of the gathering - a small scale discussion forum - spaces are limited. Candidates can send their abstract, including the format of their presentation (no longer than 300 words), accompanied by a short CV to Karolien Vermeulen no later than March 15 2010 via email: karolien.vermeulen@ugent.be
